In 1921, Léon Busy was released from his military obligations and it was with passion and passion that he photographed. First of all, Phnom Penh where he lives. He photographed for the Geographical Society itself but also for the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille. He began to be known and photographed for the photographic art more than for the historical or ethnographic side.
In 1923, he became contract agent photographer of economic affairs of the General Government of Indochina, he worked under the orders of René Têtart. It is in this function that we know his photographs, which were popularized by postcards.
In 1926, René Têtart’s photocinematographic department was dissolved but Léon Busy remained and took over as head of the photographic department. It was this service, attached to the Indochinese Office, that animated the Colonial Exhibition of 1931, and it even became the spearhead of Indochina’s tourist propaganda.
These photos continue to be reproduced and sold as postcards. They will serve as an epistolary support for our soldiers of 1945-1954.
